t is with great pleasure that I announce the creation of the Court of Sonoma. A system of justice is finally in place that
will assure justice once and for all. The system of justice will be an effort on the parts of many people to assure that
the system is fair and checked. The founder of these courts is none other than the Krosis Imperium's Sage Arthur. He
informs me that as soon as the court recieves a complaint they will be ready to begin trials. . . . . . . The jurisdiction of the court is based on a set of protections ensured to the people of Britannia. This Charter of the Britannian People is designed to limit the courts and their power. In addition, procedure will be based on a system of common law. This means that the way the court is run will be based on previous court procedures that will set precendents for future court cases. . . . . . . Currently there are over ten members of the court. These members will be given many duties. These positions include justices as well as lawyers. It is undecided as to whether or not there will be a set of marshals for the court. Instead the courts may rely on the people of Britannia to apprehend criminals. Finally the court has agreed to record all marriages in the official Scrolls of Matrimony. Any couple may be entered themselves into the Scrolls and they will be kept for all to see. . . . . . . Some of the key differences between the Court of Sonoma and previous courts (mainly the Sonoma Courts and the Court of the People) are many. First of all, these courts will not make political stances. Secondly, procedure will not require hearings to take place before trials. These courts will handle both civil and criminal matters. Finally, the Court of Sonoma will streamline the legal process so that it can hear more cases more efficiently. |
